Description:

Lup Inh 300mg Tablet is an antibiotic used for the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis (TB) and inactive (latent) TB (a serious infection caused by bacteria that affects the lungs and in certain cases other parts of the body). It works by killing the bacteria that cause tuberculosis.

Lup Inh 300mg Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It is to be taken on an empty stomach. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early can result in treatment failure and increase the side effects too. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Simply take the next dose as planned.

Some common side effects of this medicine include tingling and numbness of feet and hand (peripheral neuropathy). Inform your doctor if you notice signs of jaundice, i.e., yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, or joint pain. You may also develop hepatitis (viral infection of the liver) or increased liver enzymes as side effects of this medicine. Please consult your doctor, as these side effects require medical attention and need dose modification.

Your doctor may monitor your liver function while on treatment with this medicine. Avoid drinking alcohol as this may have additional adverse effects on the liver. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using this medicine.

Tuberculosis (TB)

Directions For Use:

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Lup Inh 300mg Tablet is to be taken on an empty stomach.
Avoid Lup Inh 300mg Tablet with tyramine-rich food such as cheese, smoked fish, meats and some types of beer.

Side Effects:

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Alcohol

Consumption of alcohol with Lup Inh 300mg Tablet may cause a disulfiram-like reaction, leading to symptoms such as flushing, increased heart rate, low blood pressure, nausea, lightheadedness, and severe headache.

Pregnancy

The safety of Lup Inh 300mg Tablet during pregnancy has not been established. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, and animal data on reproductive toxicity are insufficient. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing.

Breast feeding

Available human data suggest that the drug does not pass into breast milk in clinically significant amounts and is unlikely to harm the infant.

Driving

Lup Inh 300mg Tablet can cause fits, mental health problems and optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve that may cause loss of vision.) This may affect your driving ability.

Kidney

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Lup Inh 300mg Tablet is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment is recommended.
However, talk to your doctor if you have any underlying kidney disease.

Liver

CAUTION

Lup Inh 300mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment may be needed.
Employ of Lup Inh 300mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

Alters in body weight (gain/loss), hair loss, diarrhea or changes in menstruation are not among the known side effects of Lup Inh 300mg Tablet. You may experience few of these side effects while on multi drug (including Lup Inh 300mg Tablet) treatment for tuberculosis

Does Lup Inh 300mg Tablet cause acne/make you tired/cause constipation?

You may experience unusual tiredness, constipation or acne while on treatment with Lup Inh 300mg Tablet. Please inform your doctor about all the medication you are currently taking to avoid interactions that may reduce effectiveness of any treatment or aggravate side effects

Does Lup Inh 300mg Tablet affect birth control?

Lup Inh 300mg Tablet has no known interaction with commonly used oral contraceptives (birth control pills). However, multidrug treatment for tuberculosis contains active drug rifampin that decreases the effectiveness of oral contraceptives and hampers birth control.
