Description:

Otolin Ear Drop is used to treat ear infections. It works by killing microorganisms that cause infection. It blocks the release of certain chemical messengers that cause redness, swelling, and itching. It also works by blocking pain signals to the brain to decrease the pain sensation.

Otolin Ear Drop is for external use only. Never use drops if the seal is broken before you use it for the first time. Wash your hands before using it. Follow the instructions given by your doctor and use it in the dose and duration suggested by the doctor. Do not stop using it until you have finished the complete course, even when you feel better.

The most common side effects of Otolin Ear Drop include irritation, a burning feeling, and a stinging sensation in the ear. These effects usually occur at the site of application and are generally mild and temporary. They often settle as the ear adjusts to the medicine. If the discomfort persists, worsens, or causes concern, a doctor should be consulted.

It is not likely that other medicines you take by mouth or injection will affect the way it works but talk to your doctor before using it if you have used a similar medicine before and had an allergic reaction. This medicine should only be used if it is clearly needed during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

FAQs:

What is Otolin Ear Drop used for?

Otolin Ear Drop is used to treat ear infections where there may be both bacteria and fungus, along with swelling and pain in the ear canal. They are commonly prescribed for conditions like otitis externa, when the ear canal is red, swollen, painful, and sometimes oozing.
How does Otolin Ear Drop help with my ear pain so quickly?

The lidocaine in Otolin Ear Drop works locally on the ear canal to numb the area, which can ease the sharp, throbbing pain within a short time after use. While lidocaine gives quick comfort, the antibiotic, antifungal, and steroid components in Otolin Ear Drop work over days to clear the infection and reduce inflammation.
Are Otolin Ear Drop only for outer ear infections, or can they treat middle ear infections too?

Otolin Ear Drop is mainly meant for infections of the outer ear canal, not for ear infections behind the eardrum (middle ear). Whether they can be used when there is a hole in the eardrum or after ear surgery must be decided by an ENT specialist, because certain ingredients (like neomycin) in Otolin Ear Drop can be harmful if they reach the middle or inner ear.
Why is my doctor so particular about not using Otolin Ear Drop for too long?

Because Otolin Ear Drop contains a steroid and a strong antibiotic, using them longer than advised can increase the risk of resistant germs, thinning of the ear canal skin, or a change in the normal balance of bacteria and fungus in the ear. That is why doctors usually prescribe them for a limited number of days and ask for a review if symptoms continue.
Can Otolin Ear Drop help with severe itching inside my ear?

Affirmative, Otolin Ear Drop is often chosen when itching is intense because it treats both inflammation and fungal or bacterial overgrowth, which are common causes of itchy ear canals. As the infection and swelling settle, the itching usually reduces significantly.
Can I use Otolin Ear Drop in both ears if only one ear is infected?

You should only use Otolin Ear Drop in the ear or ears that your doctor has asked you to treat. Putting this medicine into a healthy ear “just in case” can irritate the canal and disturb its normal protective flora.
What should I do if my ear pain or discharge does not improve after a few days of using Otolin Ear Drop?

After a few days of using Otolin Ear Drop, if pain stays the same, gets worse, or if you develop new symptoms like dizziness, ringing, or a feeling of blocked hearing, you should contact your doctor or ENT specialist promptly. You may need a re‑examination to check the eardrum, clean the ear canal, or change to a different treatment.
