Description:

Montus Syrup is a prescription medicine used for asthma prevention and for the treatment of allergy symptoms such as sneezing and a runny nose. It reduces inflammation in the airways and makes breathing easier.

Montus Syrup can be taken with or without food. Take it at the same time to get the most benefit. It is advised to have it 2 hours before exercise if you have exercise-induced asthma. It should be taken with your doctor's advice. The dose and how often you take it depend on what you are taking it for. Your doctor will decide how much you need to improve your symptoms. You should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you. It does not cure sudden breathing problems, so always carry a medicated inhaler with you.


Ordinary side effects of Montus Syrup include nausea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. Generally, you should avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.


Earlier taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you have ever had severe liver problems. Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking, as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works. You must inform your doctor about pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Why do you have to take Montus Syrup at night?

Usually, it is recommended to take Montus Syrup in the evening when it is being used for asthma and allergic rhinitis (cough and cold due to allergy). However, the exact reason for this is not yet known. Some studies have shown that there is no difference in effectiveness whether Montus Syrup is taken in the evening or morning. Hence, take the medicine as directed by your doctor.

Is Montus Syrup a steroid?

No, Montus Syrup is not a steroid. It is a leukotriene blocker. Leukotrienes are natural substances released during an allergic reaction, which cause constriction of the muscles of the airway. It can also cause allergy symptoms. This medicine blocks leukotrienes, which helps in relieving symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Does Montus Syrup make you drowsy?

An uncommon side effect of Montus Syrup is drowsiness. It can also cause dizziness. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Consult your doctor if you experience these side effects.

But, if you are taking it to avoid breathing difficulties during exercise, it should be taken 2 hours before exercise.

How should Montus Syrup be given to children?

It can be directly given in the mouth or dissolved in 1 teaspoonful of cold or room temperature baby formula or breast milk. It can also be used with 1 spoonful of mashed carrots, applesauce, rice, or ice cream. Remember to give the mixture within 15 minutes of making it.
