FAQs:

What is Meqsel Tablet used for?

Meqsel Tablet is a targeted cancer medication (MEK inhibitor) used to treat certain types of melanoma (skin cancer), some forms of lung cancer, and specific thyroid cancers. It works by blocking certain proteins that help cancer cells grow. It is usually given to people whose cancer has a specific genetic change (BRAF mutation).

How does Meqsel Tablet help treat cancer?

Meqsel Tablet is a targeted cancer therapy that blocks the MEK1 and MEK2 proteins, which are part of a chain (MAPK/ERK pathway) that helps cancer cells grow. By blocking these proteins, Meqsel Tablet slows down or stops tumor growth, especially in cancers with BRAF V600 mutations.

Can Meqsel Tablet cause serious or life-threatening side effects?

Affirmative. Though rare, serious side effects of Meqsel Tablet include heart problems (reduced ejection fraction), lung inflammation (ILD/pneumonitis), vision issues (retinal detachment or vein blockage), severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), liver damage, and blood clots. You should contact your doctor immediately if you notice chest pain, trouble breathing, or vision changes.

Who should not take Meqsel Tablet?

Individuals should not take Meqsel Tablet if they are allergic to trametinib or its ingredients, do not have a BRAF V600 mutation in their cancer, are pregnant or planning pregnancy, or have severe heart or lung conditions.

How should Meqsel Tablet tablets be taken for best results?

You can take Meqsel Tablet once daily on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food. Swallow the medicine whole with water. Try to take it at the same time every day. If you vomit after taking it, do not take another dose and wait for the next scheduled dose.

What precautions should I follow while on Meqsel Tablet treatment?

During Meqsel Tablet cancer therapy, you should have regular heart scans (LVEF monitoring), check liver function every 4 weeks, monitor blood pressure regularly, and watch for signs of infection, fever, or visual changes. Routine check-ups help detect any early signs of complications.

What are the signs I should stop taking Meqsel Tablet and seek medical help?

You should stop taking Meqsel Tablet and get emergency help if you experience high fever, chills, or severe body pain, chest pain, fast heartbeat, or fainting, sudden vision loss or blurry vision, and signs of allergic reaction like swelling, rash, or breathing issues.

Does Meqsel Tablet cure cancer permanently?

Meqsel Tablet is not a cure, but it can shrink tumors, delay cancer progression, and improve survival in patients with specific mutations. Its best results are seen when used with other anti-cancer medicines (like dabrafenib) and started early in treatment. Regular follow-ups and scans are essential.
