Description:

Cocomox Dry Syrup contains two active antibiotics that are effective against a multitude of bacterial infections, including those of the ears, nose, sinus, tonsils, throat, lungs, heart, skin, and bones. It can also effectively treat infections caused by resistant bacteria.

Donate Cocomox Dry Syrup either with or without food but it is best to give it with food if it upsets your child’s stomach. It is generally given three times a day. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor as these depend on the severity of the infection, its type, and your child’s body weight and age. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, repeat the dose when your child feels better. However, do not double the dose if it is the time for the next dose.

Cocomox Dry Syrup can cause some minor and temporary side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and mild skin rash. These side effects should ideally subside on their own. But, in case these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without a delay.

Tell your child’s doctor if your child has had any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, blood disorder, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, and kidney malfunction. Information of your child’s medical history will help the doctor make dose alterations and plan your child’s overall treatment.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Dissolve the powder in sterile water. Shake well and use. Cocomox Dry Syrup may be taken with or without food.

Can I give Cocomox Dry Syrup to my child repeatedly for a long time?

Giving your child Cocomox Dry Syrup for a long term can cause fungal infection (oral thrush) in the mouth and severe gastrointestinal infections (superinfections). Therefore, do not alter the dose and duration on your own and give Cocomox Dry Syrup to your child exactly as prescribed. Increaseitionally, irregular treatment, repeated use, and misuse of Cocomox Dry Syrup can make the bacteria resistant.

Although rare, Cocomox Dry Syrup may cause some serious side effects such as persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Forever consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Cocomox Dry Syrup?

Cocomox Dry Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Cocomox Dry Syrup. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Cocomox Dry Syrup ?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

In the common cold, the mucus changes its color and thickens up with time, but this does not mean that your child needs antibiotics. Ordinary cold symptoms often last for 7-10 days. In case they fail to clear up within this duration, reach out to your child’s doctor for guidance.

Is Cocomox Dry Syrup safe for children suffering from infectious mononucleosis?

No, do not give this medicine to your child in this case as a high percentage of children with infectious mononucleosis develop a skin rash (erythematous rash) while taking Cocomox Dry Syrup.

Is it safe to give Cocomox Dry Syrup to children suffering from jaundice?

It is advised not to give Cocomox Dry Syrup to children if they have jaundice. The reason being, Cocomox Dry Syrup contains an active ingredient called cloxacillin which can aggravate the symptoms of jaundice in your child.
