Description:

Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule is a medicine used to treat atopic dermatitis (a chronic skin allergy) in dogs. It may also be used to help manage perianal fistula, a painful condition causing inflammation and ulcers around the anus in dogs. In cats, it is used to treat chronic allergic dermatitis.

Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule should be given exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. The dose and duration of the treatment may depend on your pet’s body weight or the severity of the condition. Once the condition improves, your veterinarian may reduce the frequency to every other day or a few times per week to maintain control. It should be given at least 2 hours before or after food, as food can affect absorption. For best results, follow your veterinarian’s advice on flea control, skin care, and nutrition.

The most common side effects are vomiting, soft stools, or diarrhea, which are usually mild and temporary. If your pet shows signs of persistent vomiting, weight loss, unusual tiredness, or signs of infection (such as fever or swollen lymph nodes), contact your veterinarian immediately.

Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule should not be used in dogs under 6 months of age, those weighing less than 2 kg, or in pets with cancer or known hypersensitivity to cyclosporine. It should also not be given to cats infected with Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Avoid use in pregnant or lactating animals and in those with diabetes. Do not vaccinate your pet with live vaccines during or shortly after treatment. Let your veterinarian know about all the other medicines your pet is on, as some medicines can interact with Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule.

FAQs:

What is Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule and what is it used for?

Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule is an immunosuppressant used to control atopic (allergic) dermatitis in dogs, to help treat perianal fistulae in dogs, and for certain chronic allergic skin conditions in cats. It calms the immune response that causes itching and inflammation in these conditions.

How long does it take to work, and when can improvement be expected?

Improvement usually happens gradually. Most animals show noticeable benefits within 4 to 8 weeks of daily treatment, though some may respond sooner and others may take longer. If there is no clear improvement after about 8 weeks, consult your veterinarian for re-evaluation.

Can Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule increase the risk of infections or cancer?

Cyclosporine, the main ingredient of this medicine, can suppress T-cell activity, which can make animals more prone to infections and may allow existing cancers to progress. For this reason, it should be avoided in animals with known cancer or active infections and used with caution when these risks exist. Your veterinarian will carefully weigh the potential benefits and risks before prescribing.

Can my pet be vaccinated while on Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule?

Live vaccines are not recommended during treatment (and a waiting interval is advised before/after treatment) because Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule may blunt vaccine responses or raise safety concerns with live vaccines. Inactivated (killed) vaccines also may be less effective; follow your veterinarian’s guidance on timings of vaccination.

Are there important drug interactions I should know about?

Affirmative. Some medicines can affect how Atosporin 50 Pet Capsule works or increase the chance of side effects. For example, certain antifungal or antibiotic medicines may raise cyclosporine levels in the body, while some other drugs may reduce its effect. Forever tell your veterinarian about any medicines, supplements, or topical treatments your pet is taking so the dose can be adjusted safely if needed.

Do treated animals need monitoring (blood tests)?

Your veterinarian may recommend occasional blood tests to check kidney and liver function, especially during long-term treatment. The type and frequency of testing depend on your pet’s overall health, response to treatment, and how long the medicine is used.

Can cyclosporine be used in pregnant, breeding, or very young animals?

Employ in breeding animals, pregnant or lactating dogs and cats, and young animals is generally not recommended unless a clear benefit outweighs risk. Follow your veterinarian’s specific advice for these cases.
