Description:

Sompraz D 20 capsule contains a combination of two medicines - Esomeprazole and Domperidone. It is an anti-reflux medicine and is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which does not respond to esomeprazole medication alone. GERD is a condition in which acid from the stomach comes back up to the food pipe and causes heartburn, belching, nausea, and chest pain. Sompraz D works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach and improves the mortality in the gut. Thus, it reduces the backflow of stomach content to the food pipe. Take Sompraz D 20 as per the prescribed duration. It should preferably be taken at least an hour before the meal. You may experience headache, dizziness, nausea and diarrhoea as common side effects of Sompraz D 20mg. Most of these are temporary but if you feel the side effects persist or your condition worsens, you should contact your doctor immediately. Sompraz D 20 capsule is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years old.

Uses:

In Treatment of Gastroesophageal reflux disease (Acid reflux)
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic (long-term) condition in which there is an excess production of acid in the stomach. Sompraz D 20 Capsule SR reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes and relieves the pain associated with heartburn and acid reflux. You should take it exactly as it is prescribed for it to be effective.

Some simple lifestyle changes can help reduce the symptoms of GERD. Think about what foods trigger heartburn and try to avoid them; eat smaller, more frequent meals; try to lose weight if you are overweight and try to find ways to relax. Do not eat within 3-4 hours of going to bed.

In Treatment of Functional dyspepsia
Functional dyspepsia is another term for indigestion that is not associated with a specific cause. It may cause symptoms such as an early feeling of fullness after eating, stomach pain or discomfort, nausea, and bloating. Sompraz D 20 Capsule SR helps treat these symptoms by increasing the rate of stomach emptying. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully and make appropriate lifestyle changes to get maximum benefit

FAQs:

Q: What is the use of Sompraz D 20 capsule?
A: This medicine is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in adults when GERD does not respond to esomeprazole medicine alone. This condition leads to acid regurgitating from the stomach into the food pipe, causing heartburn, chest discomfort, and acidity.

Q: Can Sompraz D 20 capsule be taken after food?
A: It should not be taken after food as food interacts with the absorption of this medicine. Hence, it should preferably be taken at least 1 hour before food.

Q: How much time does it take for this medicine to act?
A: It takes approximately 1 hour after taking a dose for this medicine to act.

Q: Can we take Sompraz D 20 capsule along with Itraconazole?
A: You should avoid taking this medicine with Itraconazole as it reduces the absorption of Itraconazole, reducing its effect. You should consult your doctor before taking Itraconazole when on treatment with this medicine.

Q: How long can I take Sompraz D?
A: You can take Sompraz D for as long as a doctor has advised you. Do not exceed the maximum daily doses and treatment durations recommended. If you feel like it is not working anymore, talk to your doctor. But do take it endlessly on your own.

Q: How does Sompraz D work?
A: Sompraz D is a combination of two components - Esomeprazole and Domperidone and it works via combined action of these components.
Esomeprazole belongs to the class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. The lining of the stomach secretes acid by certain processes that involve the intake of ions via proton pumps in the cells. Esomeprazole reduces the intake of the ions in the stomach cells that are necessary for the production of digestive acids in the stomach and hence leads to reduced acid production.
Domperidone acts by increasing the motility of the stomach and intestines so that acid does not reflux back into the food pipe.

Q: Can I take Sompraz D 20 for vomiting?
A: Sompraz D 20 capsule is used to treat the acid reflux condition and prevents its associated conditions such as nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset due to acid reflux. This medicine must not be taken for vomiting or condition other than what is prescribed. Hence it would be best to take a doctor's advice before taking any medicine to treat vomiting.

Q: Is Sompraz D capsule an antibiotic?
A: No, it is not an antibiotic medicine. Sompraz D 20 capsule is an anti-reflux medicine used to treat acidity and acid reflux conditions.
