Description:

Oraxin Drop is a combination of two active medicines cyproheptadine and tricholine citrate. Together these medicines help stimulate appetite (hunger) in children. Also, it is given to treat allergic conditions in children.

Donate Oraxin Drop to your child by mouth before food in the dose, time, and way prescribed by your child’s doctor. Donate this medicine at a fixed time so that it gradually becomes a part of your child’s daily routine. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking this medicine,  help the child calm down and repeat the dose.

To experience significant hunger stimulation and weight gain, you may require to continue giving this medicine to your child for a few days a month. Therefore, for maximum benefit, it is advised to continue the treatment for the prescribed duration.

The intake of Oraxin Drop may cause minor and temporary side effects in your child such as increased heartbeat, dizziness, confusion, headache, constipation, dry mouth, and blurred vision. These symptoms will resolve once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case of prolonged or bothersome events, it would be best to consult your child’s doctor without any delay.

Inform your child’s doctor if your child is on any medical regime or is allergic to any medicine, product, or food. The doctor must also be aware if your child has or had bowel obstruction, malnutrition, weight-related issues, thyroid problems, or any heart, liver, or kidney problems. All this information will help avoid any complications in the treatment and will help your child’s doctor plan your child’s overall treatment better.

FAQs:

Q. My child is having a long-term illness and is on medication. He is underweight with poor nutritional status and doesn't feel like eating anything. Can I give Oraxin Drop?

Loss of appetite is a common side effect of some medicines. If given, Oraxin Drop will help resolve this issue by boosting your child’s appetite and hunger. This will thereby improve your child’s nutritional status. But do make sure to speak to your child’s doctor before giving Oraxin Drop to your child as that will help decide the perfect dosing and duration. It usually takes around a few days to weeks to show results. Make sure to inform the doctor if your child is taking any other medicines.

Q. My child is restless and unable to sleep properly at night. Can I give Oraxin Drop?

No. It is true that Oraxin Drop causes drowsiness as a side effect, but you should never give Oraxin Drop to induce sleep in children. Consult your doctor if you have any queries regarding the use of this medicine or if your child is experiencing sleeplessness as it could be due to some other underlying disease.

Q. How much Oraxin Drop should I give to my child?

Adhere to the dose prescribed by your child’s doctor. The dose of the medicine is calculated according to your child’s body weight and age. Do not increase or decrease the dose on your own as it may cause unwanted effects and can worsen your child’s condition.

Q. How should Oraxin Drop be stored?

Oraxin Drop should be stored at room temperature, in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Retain all medicines out of the reach and sight of children to avoid any accidental intake.

Q. When do I need to call my child’s doctor right away?

Never hesitate to consult your child’s doctor in case of any confusion, regarding dosage, duration, side effects, etc. Contact your child’s doctor immediately if your child develops serious side effects. These may include allergic reactions (such as facial swelling, trouble breathing), signs of liver problem (such as dark-colored urine, yellow eyes or skin), excessive sleepiness, rapid heartbeat, hallucinations, feeling confused or hyperactive, trouble passing urine, irritability, and vision changes.
